19.343 Computer Aided Design (CAD)
Course Notes:
Assignments:
Three difference lab groups are assigned to the lab slots Wednesday 1-3pm, Wednesday 3-5pm,
and Friday 10-12am. You should attend the lab to which you are assigned --- please check
here. You can only
demonstrate the design and implementation of your assignment in your lab group slot.
Therefore please check that the assignment is correct. (I am aware that I have not updated
the list for some late registered students and those who had good reasons to transfer groups - Stephan)
- Assignment 1 --- number lock. Please find instructions on pages 196-198 of the
course notes.
- Assignment 2 --- traffic light controller. Please find the specifications
here.
Assignments Marks:
- Assignment marks can be found
here.
Revision Sessions:
Two revision sessions have been scheduled as you may have exams on various days. The two sessions
will be identical and Q/A style. It only makes sense to attend one of these.
- Thursday 14/1, 3-5pm, Royal College R6.67 (where we had our Friday lecture).
- Friday 15/1, 3-5pm, Royal College R6.67 (where we had our Friday lecture).
Laboratory and Tutorial Sessions:
- Lab 1 (7 or 9/10/2009): Xilinx ISE introduction; schematic entry and
testing; please find the instructions here.
- Lab 2 (14 or 16/10/2009): Defining and using macros, implementation of a
D-type edge triggered flip-flop (see course notes for instructions).
- Lab 3 (21 or 23/10/2009): Implementation of the chocolate vending machine
as a Mealy design --- you can use D-type FFs ("fd" under the Flipflop category in
ISE10.1) and the next state and output equations in the lecture notes.
Ensure that your design is tidy, with good naming conventions and modularity using macros.
Also, perform behavioural simulations with a number of suitably chosen vending scenarios.
- Lab 4 (28 or 30/10/2009) Refinement of vending machine and observation of false outputs
for Mealy machine implementation.
- Lab 5 (4 or 6/11/2009) Work on assignment 1.
- Lab 6 (11 or 13/11/2009) Work on assignment 1 --- demonstrate design.
- Lab 7 (18 or 20/11/2009) Work on assignment 1 --- demonstrate implementation.
- Lab 8 (25 or 27/11/2009) Work on assignment 2.
- Lab 9 (2 or 4/12/2009) Work on assignment 2 --- demonstrate design.
- Lab 10 (9 or 11/12/2009) Work on assignment 2 --- demonstrate implementation.
